Before
Before
Front of house (note The Freak Tree. This specimen was some sort of demented hybrid that was like having two trees with one root system. And it was the focal point of the entire front yard, the first thing everyone saw when pulling up the driveway. It had to go.)
Pool area (I uncovered lamium, barberry and a nice sized lilac bush in this garden bed):
Back deck and hot tub (note that half the back yard is covered in pea stone gravel - an exceptionally bad ground cover to have right next to the swimming pool!)
Center island in front yard (this probably looked great when it was first planted. But over the decades, everything had gotten too big and crowded and it was a jungle. I pulled and threw out some pretty big shrubs, transplanted others, and in the process uncovered some awesome perennials that now have a prominent place throughout my gardens.)
